The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum to Host Screening of My FlorÌta, Exploring Italian Migration and Identity in South Florida

Tickets Go on Sale January 10

BOCA RATON, FL (January 5, 2026) — The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum will present a special screening of the award-winning documentary My FlorÌta, a Volpe Media Intl. production, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, as part of its 2026 cultural programming lineup. The 60-minute film will be followed by a live Q&A with filmmaker Manuela Filomena.

Set in Palm Beach County, My FlorÌta explores the experiences of Italian and Italian American communities who have relocated to South Florida, examining themes of migration, memory, identity, and belonging. The documentary blends in-depth interviews with poetic visual storytelling, following a symbolic character named Alpha as he assembles a puzzle made up of objects and stories tied to the region’s Italian diaspora.

The film unfolds through two parallel narratives: one grounded in firsthand accounts supported by subtle 2D animation, and another that uses metaphor and imagery to reflect the idea of South Florida as a “New-New Land.” Personal artifacts — including heirlooms, books, and wartime memorabilia preserved in local homes — become narrative anchors connecting past and present.

The evening’s schedule includes:
6:00–6:30 PM – Check-in and welcome reception
6:30–7:30 PM – Documentary screening
7:30–7:45 PM – Q&A with director Manuela Filomena

The screening is made possible through the generous support of Carlo Cotrone, Founder and Principal Consultant of Quartal IP Consulting, who provided sponsorship for the film’s licensing.

Tickets are $15 and will go on sale January 10, 2026.

Filomena holds advanced degrees in art, design, and film from institutions in England and Italy. Her professional work includes collaborations with Academy Award–winning filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino, and she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Comparative Studies at Florida Atlantic University.
