Ken Lebersfeld
Ken Lebersfeld is the CEO of Capitol Lighting which is a chain of retail lighting
stores. He is the 4th generation leader of the business which was started by his great grandfather shortly after immigrating to the US. The business began by converting houses from gas to electricity in the early 1900s. Lebersfeld relates, “The first showroom was my Grandfather's childhood bedroom.” In 1924 his grandfather opened the first retail lighting showroom of its kind and called it Capitol Lighting. Today Capitol Lighting has 8 stores and a robust internet store. Ken is joined by his Brother, Cousin, 124 other team members in the operation of the business. “We have an experienced management team.” Ken adds. Capitol’s products have expanded to include Mirrors, Furniture and Accessories. Lebersfeld says, “We consider ourselves a forward thinking organization endeavoring to use best business practices and efficient technology but still maintain a family business environment.”
Associations and Awards: Ken has been a Distinguished Guest Lecturer at FAU College of Business. He received a National Leadership award and was named a Palm Beach County Ultimate CEO by the South Florida Business Journal. Ken is a past member of Young Presidents Organization, Vistage International and is a Trustee for the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce and member of the Board. Ken currently serves on the BLUPAC political action committee and Marketing Committee for the Chamber. He was an instructor for the Young Entrepreneur’s Academy. He is a life director for the Gold Coast Builders Association His major philanthropy associations are Habitat for Humanity and Jewish Federation.
Education and Family: Ken graduated from Emory University School of Business in 1983 in Atlanta, Georgia. He married his college sweetheart, Jamie, in 1984 and resides in Boca Raton, Florida. He has 2 daughters, Jenna (1990) and Alexa (1992).
Personal Notes: I enjoy learning about all types of businesses. I read business books, listen to podcasts and attend seminars and webinars. I believe in always sharpening the saw. My personal interests are scuba diving, sailing, and playing guitar. I participated in many sports in high school and college, and I am an avid sports fan today.
