The Power of Sports Tourism: Economic Impact on Palm Beach County and Boynton Beach

 

Doug Mosley, Executive Director Boca Raton Bowl

About our speaker: Doug Mosley is the executive director of the Boca Raton Bowl, which is owned and operated by Charlotte, N.C.-based ESPN Events, a division of ESPN which in turn is owned by The Walt Disney Company. The game is played every December prior to Christmas and takes place at Flagler Credit Union Stadium on the campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

The bowl game’s annual matchup includes teams from the American Athletic Conference, Conference USA, Mid-American Conference and Sun Belt Conference as well as certain independents and other conferences that will play prior to Christmas, such as when Atlantic Coast Conference-member Syracuse played in the 2023 game. Others who have featured in the game are FAU (twice), UCF, Memphis, SMU, Marshall, Appalachian State and 2024 champion James Madison, plus teams currently in the Top 25 like No. 11 BYU and No. 18 USF.

The Boca Raton Bowl has logged 11 successful years with cumulative viewership surpassing 38 million households and total sponsoring value over $350 million. The 12th Annual Boca Raton Bowl will take place on Tuesday, December 23, kicking off at 2 p.m. ET.

Mosley has more than 25 years’ experience in on-campus roles in intercollegiate athletics and in media, having worked in newspapers, television and radio. He is a trustee member of the Chamber of the Commerce of the Palm Beaches as well as a board member of Spirit of Giving Network, YMCA of South Palm Beach County and Habitat for Humanity for Greater Palm Beach County. He was a member of the 2024 class of Leadership Palm Beach County, is the current past president of the Palm Beach County Sports Commission board.
